Sugari in Kyoto is a hidden gem for ramen lovers! The decor is minimalist and calming, letting the food really take center stage. I tried their tsukemen and was blown away by the rich, flavorful broth and perfectly chewy noodles. The portions were generous, and the balance of flavors was excellent. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. If you’re in Arashiyama, this is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates authentic, high-quality ramen.

Hidden away on a Kyoto street and completely unnoticed, Sugari is one of the most special and unique signature ramen restaurants in all of Japan. It's worth noting that even though you might have to wait a bit, it's absolutely worth it. The carefully curated aesthetic of old Japan combined with the brutalist decor is incredibly comforting and distinctive. Their traditional pork ramen has a very intense flavor and transported me back to a childhood memory with its rich, stew-like taste. To accompany it, I ordered rice and a raw egg, which I mixed together to savor while enjoying the ramen made with fresh, carefully selected ingredients. I will always recommend this restaurant and its distinctive flavor.

The broth is deep and flavorful without being heavy, showing good balance and clarity throughout the bowl. The noodles have excellent bite and elasticity, holding up well in the soup and complementing it rather than overpowering it. Toppings are well executed and restrained, allowing the broth and noodles to remain the focus. What stands out most is the control and consistency — richness without greasiness, intensity without fatigue. It’s the kind of ramen that rewards you for slowing down and paying attention to the details. A very solid bowl that reflects careful technique and confidence in execution. Atmosphere is minimalist open style kitchen vibe.

Lo-fi chill vibes here can’t see it at all from the street, but once you walk in there is a screen to order and then you go upstairs and get your Ramen. We had two pork Ramen and a drink each for AU$32. The perfect peaceful lunch spot.

Hidden and vigilant ramen shop in quiet side street. Events (walk in, order, get served, leave) all happen in streamlined and solemn manner. Loved the pork and fish mixture broth and sweeter Hashi and veggies to counteract the sharp flavors of the land and ocean broth. For some folks these two don’t mix, so keep away. For those “traif”, it’ll fit you.

Must try. Umami + oishii A unique ramen eating experience unlike anywhere else. The offals were explosions in my mouth. Flavourful and delicious. My favourite Tsukemen by far, well balanced and not too bonito-y.

Very cool and modern Japanese restaurant. The interior was very cool with one long table with bar seating. The ramen was decent and the yuzu option was very refreshing compared the usual rich broth but was hoping for more flavor. The ramen eggs were perfect! The additional beef offal was a game changer.
